Clara Pennington, COO, AquaJet Car Wash
AquaJet Car Wash is a leading regional car wash chain in the Southwestern United States with 15 locations. For over a decade, they grew through acquisition but their technology stack remained fragmented. Each location operated independently, using different POS systems and manual phone-based scheduling for detailing services. This led to operational inefficiencies, a disconnected customer experience, and an inability to leverage their brand scale for marketing and loyalty.
AquaJet's lack of a centralized digital platform was hindering its growth. They couldn't offer a unified membership that worked across all locations, had no central database of their customers, and were losing business to newer, app-based competitors.
Integrating with three different, legacy POS systems across their 15 locations.
Creating a seamless user experience for booking and managing a multi-location subscription.
Developing a robust admin panel for corporate to view system-wide analytics.
Ensuring the mobile apps were intuitive enough for a non-technical customer base.
Developers.dev was engaged to architect and build a complete digital ecosystem. We deployed a cross-functional POD consisting of a project manager, two iOS developers, two Android developers, a backend architect, a UI/UX designer, and a QA engineer.
We built a custom API middleware that could communicate with all three legacy POS systems, standardizing the data into a single format for our new platform.
We designed and developed native mobile apps focused on ease of use. Key features included location-finding, service selection, in-app payment, and a "My Subscription" portal.
A powerful subscription module was built using Stripe Billing, allowing for multi-tiered plans, family sharing, and automated recurring payments.
A comprehensive web portal was created for AquaJet's management, providing real-time data on sales per location, subscription growth, customer demographics, and more.
Conducted a 2-week discovery phase with on-site visits to three AquaJet locations.
Developed the UI/UX wireframes and prototypes, gathering feedback from AquaJet stakeholders.
Followed an agile methodology with 2-week sprints, delivering functional demos at the end of each sprint.
Built the backend API layer and integrated it with the first POS system as a proof-of-concept.
Developed the native iOS and Android applications concurrently.
Conducted a 3-month pilot program at two locations before a phased, network-wide rollout.
The new, flexible subscription model became a massive success, creating a predictable revenue stream.
The app's self-service booking capabilities freed up staff time at all locations.
For the first time, AquaJet had a single view of their 100,000+ customers, enabling targeted marketing campaigns.
Management could now easily identify top-performing locations and services, optimizing their business strategy.
By partnering with Developers.dev, AquaJet successfully navigated its digital transformation. They now have a scalable, modern platform that has not only solved their immediate operational challenges but also positioned them for future growth and a potential franchise expansion.
